Driver injured in Sunday crash still in intensive care

— The driver seriously injured in a one-vehicle accident at 2:20 p.m. Sunday in northern Limestone County remains in critical condition in the neuro intensive care unit at Huntsville Hospital as of Thursday afternoon.

Randy Wayne Patrick, 56, of Pasadena, Texas, was transported via MedFlight helicopter with head trauma injuries, according to Chief Charles Claunch of the Oak Grove-Thach Volunteer Fire Department.

Patrick, who was wearing a seat belt, was driving northbound on Interstate 65 south of Ardmore and about four miles north of Elkmont near mile marker 363 when apparently his vehicle veered left, came back across the roadway and ran off the right side of the interstate before hitting a concrete ditch and flipping several times, Claunch said.

Patrick’s wife, Laura Owen Patrick, 54, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the couple’s maroon 2006 Nissan Murano. She was declared dead at the scene from blunt force trauma by Limestone Coroner Mike West.
