The investigation into the robbery of an Athens Sundrop warehouse manager will continue, though a former employee was arrested Thursday in connection with the May 28 incident, an official said.
Anthen Jones, 44, of 190 Shelton Road, Apt. 200, Madison, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Memphis on a charge of first-degree robbery and returned to Limestone County, Limestone County Chief Investigator Stanley McNatt said.
Authorities are investigating whether others may also be charged, he said.
The manager of SunDrop Bottling Co., a distribution warehouse at 29599 Old Highway 20, told investigators he was struck in the head and robbed of the day’s deposit as he was locking up around 7:30 p.m. He said two black men, one wearing his hair in dreadlocks, approached him from behind after he turned to lock the door and struck him in the head, possibly with the butt of a handgun.
“Based on interviews with some people, and other evidence we obtained, we identified Jones as the suspect,” McNatt said. “Shortly after the robbery took place, Jones left the area.”
Sheriff’s Lt. Lance Royals spearheaded the investigation and obtained a warrant for Jones' arrest on June 4, McNatt said.
“We solicited the help of the U.S. Marshals and they found him in Memphis,” McNatt said.
Although bail has been set at $10,000 for Jones, he is being held pending further investigation, McNatt said.
