Pesticide collection to be held in county

A Clean Day Waste Pesticide Collection will be held in Limestone County Wednesday, Aug. 28.

The Clean Day Waste Pesticide Collection Program is sponsored by Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries along with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System with funding provided by a grant from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 4.

“The Clean Day Waste Pesticide Collection Program helps farmers, small businesses, households, and other pesticide users to properly dispose of unwanted and unusable pesticides,” said Agriculture and Industries Commissioner John McMillan.

The program is offered to participants free of charge.

Unusable and unwanted pesticides must be disposed of according to label instructions.  It is illegal to bury, burn, or dump a pesticide.  State sponsored waste pesticide collections provide a means to remove these wastes and help pesticide users comply with the law while ensuring the safety of the environment.

Preregistration is required to participate in the program with your local county agent. To register, call the Tennessee Valley Cooperative Extension at 256-353-8702.
