Colbert Co. rescue workers search for missing dad

BARTON, Ala. (AP) — Colbert County rescue workers are searching for a man who was swept downstream in Cane Creek while trying to rescue his daughter.

Officials said the man disappeared Monday afternoon when the creek was unusually swift due to recent rains. His 13-year-old daughter was able to grab some brush several hundred yards downstream and pull herself to safety.

Relatives identified the man as 37-year-old Roger Hayes. His mother, Deborah Duggans, said that he had taken his three children to the creek to show them where he used to fish when he was a child. She said his daughter apparently fell in the creek and yelled for help.
