Pair of warning sirens in Limestone County not operational

A pair of warning sirens in central Limestone County are not operational and will not sound for the next few weeks should there be severe weather, the county Emergency Management Agency said.

The siren on Miller Lane, off Alabama 251, was irreparably damaged by lightning and a new siren has been ordered. It is expected to be installed next month.

The siren on Miller Road, off Holt Road, had a mechanical failure and parts have been ordered. It, too, is expected to be repaired next month.

Residents should not rely on the sirens alone for notification about severe weather because they may not be heard indoors.

Residents should use a NOAA Weather Radio and also tune into local TV and radio stations with battery backup.
