Athens man accused of clubbing, robbing another

— An Athens man accused of clubbing another over the head with a beer bottle and then stealing his ball cap, sunglasses and $221 in cash has been charged with felony robbery, an official said.

Lakerrious Devontae Townsend, 20, of 12144  Lukers Way, Unit 22, was arrested Jan. 2 on a charge of first-degree robbery in connection with the attack and theft on Nov. 29, Police Chief Floyd Johnson said Friday.

On that day, the Police Department received a report of a theft at Bonnie Doone Apartments on Sanderfer Road , Johnson said. “The victim told officers he walked around the back of one of the buildings and was hit in the head with a beer bottle,” the chief said. “A person then took his ball cap, sunglasses and $221.”

Investigator Jonathan Caldwell looked into the matter and, on Friday morning, arrested Townsend this morning on a charge of first-degree robbery.

Townsend was booked at the Police Department and transferred to the Limestone County Jail.

The investigation into this case continues and more arrest are possible.
