Cemetery vandalism suspect appears in court, seeks bail reduction

— The man accused of repeatedly vandalizing a Limestone County cemetery last month appeared in court Tuesday to get a court-appointed attorney and a bail-reduction hearing, which is scheduled for today.

A preliminary hearing for Robert Allen Muse, 21, of Falkville, was scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Limestone County District Court before Judge Jerry Batts. However, Muse asked for a court-appointed attorney and a bail-reduction hearing was scheduled for today. He is currently being held in the Limestone County Jail with bail set at $150,000 cash only.

Muse is charged with three counts of first-degree criminal mischief in connection with the breaking of headstones at Hatchett Cemetery in southern Limestone County. Surveillance cameras allegedly captured his image the third time and he was arrested.

Each charge of first-degree criminal mischief is a Class C felony and each is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Members of Little Ezekiel Baptist Church attended Tuesday’s hearing.
