Career tech students to compete at state level

— Approximately 40 students from the Limestone County Career Technical Center are bound for the state SkillsUSA contest.

The CTC held its annual SkillsUSA local competition Feb. 2, as more than 150 of the school’s 512 daily students competed in 20 categories ranging from cosmetology and carpentry to welding and graphic communications.

The CTC state delegation will include students from the six Limestone County high schools, Athens High and Athens Bible School. The local winners will be competing April 24-25 in the state contest at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center.

Twenty local students placed in the 2012 state competition, which had about 60 categories. Last June seven students from Limestone County placed in the top 20 at nationals, including silver medalist Skyler Verworren in computer maintenance technology.
