— Alabama state troopers are still investigating a single-car rollover near Toney Saturday that ejected and killed a nearly 2-year-old boy.

Madison County Coroner Craig Whisenant said Monday James Maxwell Fountain, 23 months, of Madison, died of internal injuries caused by blunt force trauma, the coroner said.

The boy’s mother, Devin Fountain, 32, of Madison, was driving a 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour about 10 p.m. on Old Railroad Bed Road, six miles north of Huntsville, when her vehicle left the roadway, hit a tree and overturned, troopers said.

Whisenant said the infant was not wearing a child restraint when he arrived at the scene but he did not know if the infant had been restrained prior to the accident.

The mother and another passenger in the vehicle, a 3-year-old sibling whose name was not available from troopers, were treated for minor injuries at Huntsville Hospital and released, troopers and Whisenant said.
