VIDEO: 2-car wreck injures 1

— A two-vehicle wreck at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Forrest Street Thursday morning injured the female driver of a red Ford Ranger pickup truck.

Emergency officials shut down incoming traffic for about 30 minutes in all four directions of the intersection after a pewter 2008 Honda Civic collided with the truck. An Athens Fire and Rescue officer at the scene said both vehicles had single occupants. The wreck occurred at approximately 11:35 a.m.

Athens Fire and Rescue first responders removed the roof of the truck to remove the driver, identified by Athens Police as Carolyn Dobbins of Athens. Dobbins remained at the scene in an ambulance for at least 10 minutes after she was extracted from the pickup and transferred to a gurney.

Athens EMS officials said Dobbins had “non-life threatening injuries” and was taken by ambulance to Huntsville Hospital by request of the patient. A hospital spokeswoman said Thursday afternoon that Dobbins was listed in good condition.

Officials originally summoned a MedFlight helicopter but canceled the MedFlight while it was in-bound to the scene, which was strewn with shards of glass and vehicle debris. The impact of the collision caused the truck to turn over on the driver’s side and flung a truck tire into the median about 40 yards away on U.S. 31 South.

Tate’s Wrecker Service responded to clear the debris and take away both vehicles, and authorities cleared the accident scene at 12:20 p.m.
