— Green was the color du jour Saturday as money flowed into the coffers during the March 16 fundraiser at Tanner High School to purchase state championship rings.

The $17,000 tally from Saturday is a culmination of a grassroots effort by the Tanner community. Approximately $12,000 was needed to ensure each member of the football and boys basketball programs — whose primary uniform color is kelly green — could receive a championship bauble.

“The community involvement was so moving Saturday, and it is such a blessing to have been part of it coming together,” said event coordinator Karen King-Freeman, a Tanner grad whose children attend the school.
