Commission to consider sharing cost of additional SROs

— The Limestone County Commission will consider a request by Limestone County Schools to share the cost of adding a pool of 12 part-time school resource officers during Monday’s 10 a.m. meeting at the Clinton Street annex.

The initial cost would be $240,000 to cover salary and equipment to hire retired officers as part-time, contract employees, who would drive their own vehicles. The county and the school system would each pay $120,000.

The school system wants to add the officers on a rotating basis to patrol the county’s elementary schools, which are receive regular patrols from Sheriff’s Office deputies but do not have an assigned officer.
