Police: Man arrested in pork chop heist

Athens Police arrested a man Tuesday on charges of stealing 10 packages of pork chops.

Police said James Ray Franklin, 47, of Room 216 at the Country Hearth Inn, was in Walmart on May 8 and was observed picking up 10 packages of pork chops and placing them inside his jacket.

The value of the pork chops was $117.12.

When an employee attempted to stop Franklin, police said, he pushed an employee and left the store.

After being booked on charges of third-degree robbery, he was transferred to the Limestone County Jail. He remained in jail Wednesday on $1,000 bond.
