— An Athens man accused of murdering his estranged girlfriend in 2011 will be tried Aug. 26 in Limestone County Circuit Court.

District Attorney Brian Jones told The News Courier Tuesday afternoon the date is firm for the capital murder trial of 49-year-old Lamar Wallace Anderson.

Anderson is accused of breaking into the old Trinity School on Brownsferry Street on March 13, 2011, and murdering Wendy Defoe Bond, 26, of Athens. Athens Police investigators believe Anderson caused her death with a knife, aluminum metal piece and his fists, according to court records. A preliminary autopsy showed Bond died of blunt-force trauma to the head. Results of the final autopsy will not be released until the trial.
