SCV donates to Trinity restoration

The Thomas Hubbard Hobbs of the Sons Of Confederate Veterans camp presented a check for $1,000 to the Athens-Limestone Community Association for the project to restore portions of the Trinity School as a memorial and museum to tell some of the stories about this school that was founded after the Civil War to educate the children of freed slaves. Shown at the check presentation are, from left, Ed Gilbert, president of the Athens-Limestone Community Association; Richard Martin, member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and ALCA; Jimmy Hill, acting commander of the Hobbs camp, and David Malone, member of ALCA.

Among Trinity’s alumni are many successful and even famous people in all walks of life, teachers, lawyers, judges, and entertainers. This money was from designated donations from camp members. The school itself was successful and survived for approximately 100 years and was closed only after integration moved its students to another school.
