Firehouse Subs finally open in Athens

— Firehouse Subs is hosting its grand opening Friday in Athens.

The sub shop at 935 U.S. 72 East, next to Walmart, is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.

Local owners Jason Hayles, Larry Richard and Dexter Troullier collectively own seven other Firehouse Subs locations in the area.

The restaurant’s dining room features a hand-painted mural depicting an Athens fire truck parked in front of Athens State University with firefighters offering a bottle of honey to the university’s bear mascot.
