The Class 2A Tanner girls earned their 20th victory with a 58-49 win against Cold Springs at the Northwest Regional Tournament in Hanceville today, advancing to the regional finals at 9 a.m. Saturday against the winner of tonight’s Red Bay-Sulligent game.
The Rattlers (20-7) dispatched Cold Springs (27-7) with hot shooting from inside the 3-point line, as Tanner out-shot the Eagles 48.9 percent to 30 percent.
Freshman forward Kirstin Brown paced Tanner with 24 points and six rebounds. Kelsey Houston added 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field-goal range and six rebounds, while Sydney Houston had 10 points, six rebounds and six assists.
Chloe Harbison had a team-high 20 points for Cold Springs, with Haley Freeman (14) and Emma Willoughby (11) also in double figures.
In a game that finished this evening, the Tanner boys followed with a 59-52 victory against Cold Springs, advancing to the finals at 10:30 a.m. Saturday against the winner of tonight’s Lexington-Vincent winner.
The Rattlers, which have won two of the past three 2A state titles in boys basketball, improved to 19-8. The Eagles finished their season at 22-10.

*Single-entry tickets are $8 or $30 for a weekend pass, while parking is $3 for the tournament, which is hosted by Wallace State Community College at Tom Drake Coliseum.
