Man accused of using brother's ID to buy meth precursor

ATHENS — A man accused of using his brother's ID to buy pills for making methamphetamine has been arrested by Athens Police.

Officer Kelly Fussell stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation Thursday at the post office on Market Street, Chief Floyd Johnson said. While Fussell was talking to the driver, Robert Lee Vandermarkt, 27, of 112 Bates St., Athens, he determined  Vandermarkt had used his brother's identification to buy pseudoephedrine hydrochloride pills, an over-the-counter nasal decongestant sometimes used to make the stimulant methamphetamine.

"Vandermarkt told Fussell he was intending to sell the medication to other people who cook methamphetamine," Johnson said.

Vandermarkt was charged with the manufacture, sale or transfer of a precursor. He was booked at the Police Department and transferred to the Limestone County Jail.
