ALMA's Sonrise service set for Sunday

— The Athens-Limestone Ministerial Alliance will again host the annual Easter Sonrise Service at 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

The 30-minute service will be held on the steps of Waters Hall on the campus of Athens State University. In case of inclement weather, the service will move to the ballroom of the Sandridge Student Center.

Phillip Presley, pastor of The Bridge at Valley Church and president of ALMA, will present the welcome. Robert Fullerton of the Limestone Baptist Association will offer the opening prayer. Steve Dorning, pastor of Friendship North, will deliver the message.

ALMA invites all residents to attend the countywide event.

The following Easter events were submitted to The News Courier:

• Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4765 will hold a free Easter egg hunt from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday at their Post on Alabama 127 and North Jefferson Street. Public invited. Prizes in every egg.

• West Limestone Volunteer Fire Department will host an Easter egg hunt with games, relays and smokehouse at 2 p.m. Saturday at the fire hall. West Limestone community invited.

• Athens Church of God will host a Sonrise Service at 7 a.m. Sunday in the church sanctuary. It will be followed by a breakfast at 8 a.m. in the dining hall. Sunday school for adults and children begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by morning service at 10:45. The church is located at the intersection of Lucas Ferry and West Hobbs/Quinn Road.

• Soul’d Out Christian Center International will hold its annual public Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Athens Boys & Girls Club on Washington Street.

•  Bright Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America will celebrate Easter with breakfast from 7-8:45 a.m. and a worship service at 9 on Sunday. The Rev. Leroy Clark of Mount Hope is the featured speaker. Contact: 256-355-6253.

• Elkwood Baptist Church on Alabama 127 in Elkmont will hold a Easter Community Sunrise Service at 7 a.m. Sunday. Contact: 256-732-3162.

• Sardis Springs Baptist Church in Athens will host “A Night of Hope” featuring Kingston Drive, Channing Eleton and Will McFarlane at 6 p.m. Sunday.
