School board synopsis

— During its April 2 regular meeting, the Limestone County Board of Education approved the following items:

• Professional service contracts with Dale Welborn, Bobby Earl Greene and Angela Biggs for the remainder of the 2012-13 school year not to exceed $2,000 for special education homebound instruction, and with Daniel Smith as a teacher at the Alternative School from April 3 to the end of the school year at a rate of $193 per day not to exceed $7,527;

• New personnel James Talbert as East Limestone High School bus driver retroactive to March 21, and Nicole Russell as Tanner High School teacher effective April 3;

• Transfers for David Jones to bus driver for Blue Springs Elementary School/Clements High School, Ruth Brewer to bus driver at Elkmont High School and Kevin Malone to bus driver at Creekside Elementary School;

• Retirements for Madolyn P. Whitt as Elkmont media specialist and Marsha R. Ryan as West Limestone instructional assistant, both effective June 1;

• A resignation by Kevin Pepper as yearbook adviser for Cedar Hill Elementary School effective May 24.

• Leaves of absence for Buford Bates at West Limestone, Shirley White at Creekside, Larissa Dison at Piney Chapel Elementary School, Melanie Perry at the Career Technical Center, Alberta McWilliams at East Limestone and Andy George at West Limestone;

• Leave in lieu of sick leave for Odell V. Shoulders at Tanner;

• Volunteers for the remaining school year: Joseph Watwood as junior varsity assistant coach for the East Limestone girls soccer team, Redus Wayne Moran as baseball coach at Tanner, Jarrod Harrison as assistant baseball coach at Tanner and Tommy Reyer as assistant football coach at West Limestone;

• Approval of capital plan contracts with McKee and Associates for the Ardmore High School gymnasium, Clements renovations and replacing the visitors’ bleachers at the Ardmore football stadium;

• Approval of an $8,500 geotechnical survey for $8,500 with Morell Engineering in Athens for the Ardmore gym. —Kim West
