UPDATE: ASU student killed, Huntsville woman injured in wreck

HARVEST — An Athens State University student was killed Saturday night in a two-vehicle wreck on Alabama 53 in Harvest.

According to the Alabama State Trooper Post in Huntsville, Emily Daye, 24, of Harvest, was killed when her 2001 Oldsmobile Alero collided with1998 Honda Civic driven by Caren Rush, 30, of Huntsville, about 10:35 p.m. near Harvest Road.

Rush was injured in the wreck and was listed in fair condition today at Huntsville Hospital, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

A former Sparkman High School softball standout who was twice selected all-state shortstop, Daye was pursuing a teaching degree at ASU, where she had made the honors list. She worked at Harvest Elementary after-school care.

Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Berryhill Funeral Home in Huntsville, with burial to follow at Huntsville Memory Gardens.
