NWS: Redstone, Marshall ready for severe weather

— HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — The National Weather Service says Redstone Arsenal and Marshall Space Flight Center are prepared for severe weather.

Weather service officials on Thursday presented Storm Ready Community signs to Redstone and Marshall representatives. The designation is a step up from the previous Storm Ready Supporter status. The upgrade reflects work by Redstone and Marshall to document their early warning systems and communication process, shelter areas and provide training on dealing with severe weather.

Chris Darden, meteorologist in charge at National Weather Service in Huntsville, says reaching that status is a fairly rigorous process.

Carole Valenti, emergency management director for Marshall, said it's important for all the employees on the arsenal to know safety is a top concern.
