Stamp prices going up in January

ATHENS — The Postal Service has proposed raising the price of stamps and other services today.

The price of mailing a letter first-class would increase from 46 cents to 49 cents and postcards would see a one-cent hike to 34 cents.

The proposed changes, which would go into effect in January, are intended to generate $2 billion in incremental annual revenue for the Postal Service, the agency announced today.

Other increases in a one-cent hike to 21 cents for additional ounces and international mail would cost $1.15.

The proposals will be filed Thursday with the Postal Regulatory Commission will be available at www.prc.gov and http://pe.usps.com.
