— A man accused of choking his wife after an argument at their residence last week has been arrested in connection with the alleged crime, an official said.

Xavier Cornell Johnson, 45, of 106 Wellington Road, Athens, was arrested Monday on a warrant for second-degree domestic violence (strangulation), records show.

An Athens police officer took a domestic violence report from Johnson’s wife on Feb. 28, and Investigator Tim McIntire later obtained a warrant for Johnson’s arrest, Chief Floyd Johnson said.

The accused was booked at the Police Department and transferred to the Limestone County Jail.
