U.S. 72 shooter seeks youthful offender status

— A 20-year-old Tennessee man who said he shot a motorcyclist at random on U.S. 72 last year because he “just felt like shooting someone,” will ask the court today for youthful offender status.

If granted, the status could result in a milder sentence for Noah Andrew McGlawn of Whiteville, who is charged with attempted murder in the Sept. 10, 2012, shooting of cyclist Brandon Matlock, 23, of Athens.

Athens attorney Dan Totten, who is representing McGlawn, will seek youthful-offender status for his client at a hearing at 9 a.m. today in Limestone County Circuit Court.
