Two charged in Athens aluminum theft

The theft of $8,000 worth of aluminum parts from an Athens business has led to the arrest of two residents on felony theft charges.

Amanda Katherine Toon, 27, of 25823 Wooley Springs Road, and Charles Wayne Watkins, 30, of 13449 Reid Road, were each charged with one count of first-degree theft of property, records show.

They are accused of taking about $8,000 in aluminum parts from Cast Products Inc. on Jefferson Street on March 21, Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said.

“Investigators have recovered most of the aluminum that was stolen,” the chief said. “This investigation is continuing, and more arrests are possible.”

Investigators Eric White and Jonathan Caldwell arrested Toon and Watkins Thursday, Johnson said. They were booked at the Police Department and transferred to the Limestone County Jail, where they were released after posting $5,000 bail each.
