Six die in Labor Day holiday wrecks across state

— Six people died in traffic accidents over the Labor Day holiday in Alabama, state troopers reported.

Troopers said Wednesday the six people killed were drivers or passengers in five separate crashes during the holiday travel period, which began at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, and ran through midnight Monday, Sept. 2.

Fatal wrecks occurred in Blount, Chambers, DeKalb, Limestone and Marengo counties, records show.

Based on preliminary investigation, alcohol was involved in at least one of the fatal wrecks, according to troopers.

Seat belts were available to four of the six individuals killed, but only three were using them.

The other fatal crashes involved a motorcyclist and a pedestrian.

Troopers continue to investigate the accidents.
