MOULTON, Ala. (AP) — Organizers of an annual music festival that attracted 20,000 people to Moulton say the event is ending after nine years.
The Lawrence County Arts Council this week announced that the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival is going away. The council's board of directors cited difficulty in coordinating and planning the event.
Moulton Mayor Ray Alexander said that losing the event will have an economic impact.
The newspaper reports that event coordinator Vicki Morese didn't return calls seeking comment, but said in a written statement that the event has outgrown its volunteer, logistic and financial resources.
Formed in 2005, the festival featured eating contests, a juried art show, a poultry show, antique tractors, craft exhibits, and entertainers ranging from the Kentucky Headhunters to Confederate Railroad.
