Athens woman arrested on pseudoephedrine charge

An Athens woman was arrested on drug charges Tuesday after allegedly trying to buy pseudoephedrine.

Candace Nicole Shakelford, 32, of Alabama 127 was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession or purchase of pseudoephedrine, according to Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely.

Blakely said narcotics officers learned that Shakelford was allegedly going to meet someone who had purchased pseudoephedrine at a local pharmacy. Pseudoephedrine is a key ingredient in the manufacture of methamphetamine.

Officers stopped her vehicle there and, after she got out, saw a small straw and a white powdery substance on the car seat.

She was taken into custody
