Carden finishes among top 5 in Class 5A cross-county meet

DANVILLE — Athens senior runner Tate Carden capped a successful prep career at Oakville Indian Mounds Park, winning his third state medal in the past three seasons with a fourth-place finish at the Class 5A boys state meet.

On an overcast and mildly cool autumn morning, more than 1,600 runners converged on the scenic and sloping 5K course, with runners from five schools in Limestone County competing in the 1A-2A, 3A, 4A and 5A meets.

The boys and girls teams from West Limestone, Elkmont and Athens Bible all qualified for state, while runners from Clements (Mack van Wagnen, Richard Hodges, Abby Craig and Brooklyn Devaney) and Athens (Carden and Lindsey Martin) competed as individuals.

Official race results for all local runners will be available in Tuesday’s edition.
