UPDATE: Moyers denied bail in capital murder case

ATHENS — A man accused of fatally shooting a motorist last year in Limestone County will remain in jail until his trial.

Limestone County Circuit Judge Jimmy Woodroof Jr. rejected late Tuesday Joel Patrick Moyers’ request for bail. Moyers, 52, of Cullman, is charged with capital murder in the shooting of Brandon Hydrick, 26, of Athens. 

In his ruling, filed at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, Woodroof wrote:

“The court has conducted a hearing on said request and considered the charges and reviewed the evidence of said charges. Count one of a four-count indictment charges capital murder. It is the finding of the court that motion to set bond is hereby denied. The defendant shall continue to be held without the benefit of bail."

Limestone County District Attorney Brian Jones declined to comment on the ruling.
