Tickets for 21st annual Poke Sallet Follies still available

Associated Press

A few tickets still are available for the 21st annual Poke Sallet Follies.

The variety show is at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, Friday, March 8, and Saturday March 9 at the Athens Senior Center on Pryor Street. Tickets are $35 and include a meal of chicken cordon bleu with sides and dessert.

The show raises about $20,000 annually for senior activities and programs, such as Meals on Wheels.

Local dignitaries act not-so-dignified by doing spoofs of TV shows, movies and songs. This year's theme is "Be Our Guest" and includes numbers such as Athens Most Wanted, Coming to America, Macho Man, Titanic and Red Solo Cup.

The show is called Poke Sallet Follies as a play on words of the Southern dish polk salad, because like the Southern weed, the show pops up in the spring and grows wild.

To get tickets, call the Athens Senior Center at 256-233-6412.
