UPDATE: Athens man accused of trying to steal beer, meat from freezer

ATHENS — A man accused of breaking into a garage to steal meat and beer from a freezer this week is now facing a burglary charge.

Athens Police arrested Erskin Dewayne Jacobs, 49, of 103 Levert Circle, on Plato ones Street Thursday and charged him with felony third-degree burglary, Capt. Trevor Harris said Friday.

Lt. Charles Clem spotted Jacobs Thursday afternoon and served the warrant, Harris said. During a search following his arrest, officer Mac McWhorter found Jacobs with two crack rocks in his possession, so he was also charged with possessioin of a controlled substance, Harris said.

Jacobs was booked at the Police Department and transferred to the Limestone County Jail, where bail is set at $7,500.
