MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A summary of action in the Alabama Legislature on Wednesday, a committee meeting day:
—Senate Finance and Taxation-General Fund Committee approved House-passed bills to extend assessments on hospitals and nursing homes that help finance state Medicaid benefits. Go to Senate.
—House State Government Committee approved two bills that would prohibit welfare recipients from using their benefits in bars and strip clubs and that would require drug tests for welfare applicants with a drug conviction in the last five years. Go to House.
—House Ways and Means-Education Committee approved a bill to remove the executive secretary of the Alabama Education Association from the board that oversees the pension program for state education employees. Goes to House.
