ATHENS — An Athens man accused of raping and sodomizing four female relatives has been arrested and charged with four felony counts, an official said.

Athens Police arrested Tomas Diaz Salgado, 29, of 439 Springview St., late Thursday afternoon on two counts of sexual abuse of a child under age 12, one count of first-degree rape and one count of first-degree sodomy, Police Chief Floyd Johnson said today.

The Police Department received a call April 2 from a family member of the four females alleging the abuse, the chief said.

Investigator Eric White has been investigating since the alleged crime was reported. He was assisted in the investigation by the Athens Limestone Child Advocacy Center. Experts there have already interviewed the alleged victims, Johnson said.

“These cases are still under investigation and additional charges are possible,” the chief said.

Salgado was booked at the Police Department and transferred to the Limestone County Jail.
