Calhoun Community College will conduct its spring graduation ceremonies Friday with State Rep. Mac McCutcheon, R-Capshaw, serving as guest speaker.
Graduation events kick off at 6 p.m. on Tuesday with the college’s 2013 GED graduation taking place in the Kelley Gymnasium. About 200 students will participe in the annual ceremony.
Five members of the graduating class will provide the address.
The formal ceremony begins at 6 p.m. Friday on the lawn in front of the math/science/administra-tion building on the Decatur campus. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will move to the Kelley Gymnasium, with a televised overflow inside the MSA building.
About 400 students plan to participate in this year’s ceremony. Bagpiper Ryan Morrison will again lead the graduation procession.
Also on May 10, 134 students graduating from the college’s associate degree nursing program will participate in the annual candle lighting ceremony. The ceremonies begin at 1 p.m. in the Kelley Gymnasium.
McCutcheon was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 2006 and was unopposed in 2010.
He serves the communities of Madison City, Capshaw, Monrovia, Huntsville City and East Limestone. In the Legislature, McCutcheon has held seats on the Ways and Means General Fund Committee; the House Transportation, Utilities, and Infrastructure Committee (chairman); and the Madison County Legislation Committee (chairman).
In November 2012, he was selected to serve as chairman of the agenda-setting House Rules Committee. He will continue to serve as chairman of the Madison County Legislative Committee and vice chairman of the Joint House and Senate Transportation Committee.
