UPDATE: EMS reports minor storm damage, no injuries

— Storms that frightened Athens and Limestone County residents for an hour Friday afternoon have moved to Tennessee. Minor damage from tornadoes was reported but no injuries. There  were multiple reports of tornadoes descending and then  ascending along a line from southwest of Athens, near Roy Long Road, north to Ardmore. The storm remained east of U.S. 72. Beginning at 2 p.m., a funnel was forming southwest of the intersection of U.S. 31 and 72 near Walmart in Athens, which appeared to descend on or near the ground. The storm moved north along 31, over Athens High School, near Jack's Restaurant, the Piney Chapel area and then east of 65 and headed to Ardmore.

Athens Fire and Rescue Chief Tony Kirk said there are some leaks at Wal-Mart on U.S. 72 and firefighters are using the ladder truck to check for roof damage. The Zaxby's menu sign was leveled in the storm. knocked over. Zaxby's is located across from Walmart.

The Limestone County Emergency Management Agency reported the following damage:

• Two homes on Hardiman Lane in Ardmore received minor roof damage.

• One barn on Hardiman Lane received minor damage.

• Walmart in Athens reported roof leaks. 

• Zaxby’s sign damage.

• A few large tree limbs on Roy Long Road reported down.
