Forecasters: Windy, cooler day in store for Ala

Associated Press

— BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Wind gusts of up to 35 mph are expected in much of Alabama as a cold front sweeps across the region, bringing cooler weather to the state.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for the northern two-thirds of Alabama. The advisory area extends from the Tennessee line to south of Troy in the wiregrass area.

Forecasters say the strong winds could bring down large tree limbs and power lines, and unsecured objects such as patio furniture and trash cans could be blown around.

Forecasters say temperatures will also be much cooler, with highs in the 50s in north Alabama instead of the mid-70s. Then, temperatures will begin dropping in the afternoon to below freezing.

Afternoon highs are supposed to rebound into the upper 60s along the coast by Saturday.
