Officials provide debris disposal rules for city, county residents

— Those who have debris from Monday’s storms should follow the appropriate disposal rules outlined for city and county residents.

Vegetative debris

If you live in the county,, burn the vegetative debris — trees, limbs and brush — on the property from which it originated. Burning is illegal in the city limits.

Transport the debris to a legal disposal site such as a landfill or transfer station.

Pile the debris on the backside of ditches, away from the road. Debris should not be placed in ditches or on the shoulders of the road. Debris may be picked up later if authorized by a presidential disaster declaration.

Other debris

Disposal of construction and other man-made debris will be the responsibility of the property owner and should be disposed of by transporting it to a landfill or by placing it in roll-off containers or dumpsters provided by disposal companies.

Property owners should check their insurance policies for coverage for this type of debris.

Construction and other man-made debris should not be placed on the rights of way as they are usually not considered eligible for removal using public funds.
