UPDATE: Pit bull owner arrested on cruelty charges

— A woman who brought a badly injured pit bull to an Athens veterinarian’s office after claiming she found it roaming in a gas station parking lot was actually the dog’s owner, authorities said Thursday.

Capt. Stanley McNatt with the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office said Farrah Hope Michael, 24, of 11447 Harrison Road, Lester, was arrested Wednesday evening on charges of cruelty to animals.

Michael brought the dog to Town & Country Animal Hospital in Athens with a 22-pound log chain deeply imbedded in its neck.
