BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The pulsating pregame music is off as the seconds tick down to tip-off in the Class 2A championship game at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex.
No. 1 Tanner (27-4) is vying for its second basketball title in three years, and the school’s fourth overall state title in two years. The Rattlers, who appeared focused and relaxed in warm-ups — leading scorer Greg Maclin flashed a smile and thumbs-up to a well-wisher in the Tanner section of the arena — as they prepare to take on unranked LaFayette (21-11).
The green, black and white-clad Rattlers’ starting lineup is Maclin, Jace Haggermaker, Desmond Love, Justin “Bubba” Smith and Fred Rich.
The Bulldogs, wearing white, black and yellow, start Damien Paige, RaQuazious “Qua” Boyd, Tyric Davis, Cordeski Floyd and Kaminski Bledsoe.
