BREAKING: Neighbors help ID suspect in burglary

Neighbors at a local apartment complex helped Athens Police identify a man who now stands accused of stealing a television, jewelry and other items during a June break-in.

Christopher Todd Schuster, 45, of 17984 Circle Drive, Athens, was arrested Monday on a warrant charging him with third-degree burglary, records show.

He is accused of breaking into Windscape Apartments between June 13 and 22 and stealing a 42-inch television, jewelry, coins, medication, a Sentry brand safe, a Wii brand video console, a cellphone and Christmas decorations, Police Chief Floyd Johnson said.

"The apartment owners had been out of town and returned to find their apartment had been broken into," Johnson said. "Officer Abe Niedzwiecki checked with others in the area and found a couple of people who had seen a strange person in the area. He obtained the description of the person and asked the victim if he knew anyone who fit the description. The victim told Niedzwiecki about Schuster."

Investigators Jonathan Caldwell and Eric White investigated the case and Caldwell obtained the warrant.

Schuster was booked at the Police Department and transferred to the Limestone County jail, where he was released after posting bail of $2,500.
