Board approves construction bid for $4.2M Ardmore project

Building Construction Associates submits winning bid

— The Limestone County Board of Education accepted on Tuesday a $4.3 million bid from Building Construction Associates for renovations and a new gymnasium at Ardmore High School.

Decatur-based BCA submitted a base bid of $4,308,600 for the $4.2 million project. Dr. Tom Sisk, superintendent of Limestone County Schools, said he intends for the project to break ground by July 31.

The Ardmore project is among the first of two phases in the school system’s $26.1 capital plan approved in March. The construction manager for Ardmore is Darrell Sims, who also supervised the construction of the Tanner High School gym.

Project architect McKee and Associates assured board members in a July 1 letter that the actual cost would fall within the estimated budget due to “sales tax savings.” A school system can purchase materials without incurring sales tax as a tax-exempt organization.

BCA also included a $231,500 proposed cost for the furnishing and installation of all work related to new improvements at the high school known as Alternate No. 1 on the bidding sheet, and a $160,000 cost for two additional classrooms in the gymnasium identified as Alternate No. 2.

The other three base bids opened on June 27 were $4,434,000 from Boyett Construction, $4,350,000 from Consolidated Construction and $4,320,349 by Pearce Construction.
