Chamber honors members

— Lynn Lane took to the podium and smiled widely.

How proud she was, she said, that the Limestone County Chamber of Commerce, her chamber for the past year, had come together to make Limestone a marketable place.

“It’s a true team effort,” she said. “It’s really exciting and motivating.”

The group met for its annual awards luncheon Wednesday at the Beasley Center in Athens. Approximately 200 people, among them business leaders, politicians, philanthropists and students, came in from the rain to celebrate a year of volunteering and community that Chamber President Jennifer Williamson said showed a bright future for Limestone County.

Sandra Thompson, director of the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives, was given the title of Public Servant of the Year. Presenter Camden Kent said Thompson was deserving of the award for all the time she puts in helping local military.

“She has seen that deserving veterans get their lost medal,” Kent said. “She has truly been a lifeline for our community veterans and their families.”
