D.A. will collect food, other items for needy during Athens parade

The Limestone County District Attorney’s Office will hold its third-annual community needs drive while its float makes its way through Athens during the 2013 Reliance Bank Christmas Parade, scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at Athens High School off U.S. 31

The D.A.’s office will be collecting the following:

• Canned foods for Limestone County Churches Involved;

• New blankets, hats and gloves for children and adults for the Limestone County Department of Human Resources;

• Socks for children of all ages; books for children of all ages; coloring books and crayons for children; and flashcards and other learning activities for children of all ages for the Limestone County Family Resource Center.

In 2012, a tremendous outpouring of support enabled the D.A.’s office to fill its float to capacity, District Attorney Brian Jones said.

“I want to personally thank each and every person who made our second-annual community needs drive a huge success,” he said. “This year, with even more of our neighbors in need, I pray that we can build upon last year’s accomplishments and work together to benefit Limestone County.”
