Most Alabama Guard members back from Sandy

— ANNISTON, Ala. (AP) — The Alabama National Guard reports that most of the 50 soldiers who went to help with the disaster response to Superstorm Sandy have returned to the Fort McClellan Army National Guard Training Center in Anniston.

The soldiers from the 167th Theater Sustainment Command deployed to New York, New Jersey and Delaware to provide logistical organization support. That included coordinating fueling and water removal operations to help local authorities, relief workers and utility crews in damaged areas.

The 167th's commanding general, Maj. Gen. Reynold Hoover, says it was gratifying to support disaster relief operations after the storm hit Oct. 30.

The National Guard said the five soldiers remaining in the stricken area are supposed to be back in Alabama soon.
