Man formally charged after 2012 DUI, fatal crash

— A Hartselle man has been formally charged with reckless murder following a fatal wreck on Huntsville-Browns Ferry Road in August 2012.

Timothy Alan Hall, 29, of 1833 Woodmont St., was recently indicted by a Limestone County grand jury on charges of reckless murder, driving under the influence and driving the wrong way, records show. Authorities said at the time of the wreck Hall's 2011 Volkswagen Jetta struck a motorcycle, driven by Mark Henry Holt, 48, of Toney, about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug 19. Holt was pronounced dead at the scene by Limestone County Coroner Mike West

Although Hall had already been initially charged following the wreck, the grand jury's indictment makes it a formal charge. Hall was arrested on the grand jury warrant Friday and released after posting bail of $26,500, records show.

A trial date will be set.

Huntsville Police spokesman Harry Hobbs said at the time of the wreck Hall was eastbound on Huntsville-Browns Ferry near Gray Road when he crossed the centerline and struck Holt’s motorcycle, which was westbound. Hobbs said Hall was charged with murder by car due to possible alcohol and other controlled substances being involved.

Under Alabama law, a person can be accused of murder if he or she recklessly engages in conduct that creates a grave risk to a person other than himself of herself and, thereby, causes the death of another person.

Holt was the father of two children.
