School system forms public safety council

Emergency officials, citizens invited to first meeting Thursday

School officials are issuing an all-call to area first responders as the Limestone County Career Technical Center prepares to launch a Public Safety Academy, which will be part of the center’s five new program areas.

The first responders are being asked to share their expertise and feedback at the first Public Safety Advisory Council meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. It will be held at the second-floor central office boardroom at 300 South Jefferson Street.

The academy will have a program for law enforcement and legal studies, which will prepare students for careers in law enforcement, public safety and security.

Another course option will be emergency services, which includes the emergency medical profession and fire services.

In a recent letter sent to emergency personnel and law enforcement officials, public safety officials were described as “some of our best resources for implementing the Public Safety Academy,” according to Limestone schools Superintendent Dr. Tom Sisk.

He said he is asking them to provide input about “skill sets, credentials and potential certifications that would better prepare our students for these career opportunities.”

Sisk said prospective students, parents and the public also is invited to attend the advisory council meeting to learn about the new programs.

For more information, call the central office at 256-232-5353.
