ATHENS — A girlfriend angry with her boyfriend for letting others stay in their motel room has been arrested for allegedly stabbing him in the shoulder with a steak knife, an official said.

Athens Police on Wednesday night arrested Vanessa Oene Poole Hawkins, 41, who was staying in Room 120 of the Mark Motel at 208 U.S. 31, records show. She is charged with second-degree domestic violence (assault).

Chief Floyd Johnson said officers were called to the local motel about 8:20 p.m. about a domestic disturbance.

“When officers arrived they found a 41-year-old man who had been stabbed in his left shoulder,” Johnson said. “The victim told officers Hawkins was his girlfriend and that they had been in a disagreement about people staying in their room. The victim also said Hawkins had hit him several times and then left the room. She returned a short time later with a steak knife that she used to stab him.”

Paramedics were called and treated the victim at the scene, Johnson said.

Hawkins was booked at the Police Department and transferred to the Limestone County Jail, where bail is set at $10,000. She was still in jail Thursday afternoon, records show.
