NWS repeats tonight’s severe storm warning

An intense line of thunderstorms associated is still expected to sweep eastward across the region this evening.

There is a moderate risk of severe thunderstorms generally over far northwest Alabama, where significant damaging straight-line winds in excess of 70 mph will be possible. There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms for the remainder of the area, with the primary risk being damaging winds of 60 to 70 mph.

Timing of the greatest threat for severe weather still appears to be between 7 and 10 p.m. for northwest Alabama; between 9 and midnight for the Interstate 65 corridor, and between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. for northeast Alabama.

Although the most significant threat from this squall line will be damaging winds, a few brief tornadoes will also be possible with circulations embedded in the squall line. Frequent lightning and localized flooding will also be possible this evening.
